Ephesus is a very good archeological site of a Roman city in Turkey. It overlooks the Meander river valley. The centerpiece of the city is the library of Celsus. The theater there is huge and can seat 25,000 spectators. Walking the streets is like a time machine and gives you a sense of Roman life. It is amazing what their cities were like 2000 years ago.
Near Ephesus is the house of Mary. It is small. Outside the house there is a wall where people write prayers they want fulfilled my Mary and tie them to the wall. This wall can be seen in the second picture of this gallery.
After Ephesus and the House of Mary we went to a traditional rug making school where girls can learn the dying art of rug weaving. It was very interesting to learn how they craft beautiful rugs. The more intricate rugs are made out of silk and can take years to make. No cameras were allowed here.
After the rugs we went to the Basilica of St. John. From the Basilica you can see the remains of the Temple of Artemis. This is the third ancient wonder of the trip.
Overall Turkey was the best day of the trip. The part of the country we visited was beautiful. I enjoyed seeing and learning about the Turkish culture. The food in Turkey was some of the best I have ever had. Santorini was the last stop in Greece.
